Paragliding in Innsbruck: a guide to your first tandem flight
Where to fly around Innsbruck, what it costs, when it’s worth it and how to get there – summed up by our pilots.
Where can you go paragliding near Innsbruck?
Innsbruck is surrounded by mountains, and several of them are used for paragliding. The Nordkette right above the city and the Patscherkofel to the south are well known. For tandem flights with guests, though, the cable cars in the Stubai Valley – the first side valley south of Innsbruck – are especially popular.
Fly Innsbruck takes off from two mountains in the Stubai Valley:
- Elfer (Neustift): launch at approx. 1,800 m, a few minutes’ walk from the Elferlifte top station. Landing on a large meadow in the valley at approx. 1,000 m.
- Schlick 2000 (Fulpmes): launch at approx. 2,140 m below the Kalkkögel. Our first choice in winter.
Both launch sites are easy to reach by cable car, so tandem flights work well for children and older guests – and often even with a walking disability (please ask first). For the FLY Innsbruck flight with city views we choose the launch site individually, depending on the weather.

When is the best time to go paragliding?
Tandem flights are possible all year, and every season has its charm:
- Spring and summer: green pastures, long days and good thermals for longer flights such as the thermal flight or the first-class flight.
- Autumn: often clear long-distance views and calm air.
- Winter: snowy peaks and a flight that combines well with a ski day at Schlick 2000.
The air is usually calmest in the morning – ideal for beginners and the morning flight. Thermals tend to build from late morning.
How do I get from Innsbruck to the launch site?
- By car: A13 Brenner motorway, exit Schönberg/Stubaital. About 25 minutes to Fulpmes, about 30 minutes to Neustift. Free parking at both meeting points.
- By bus: lines 590–594 from Innsbruck main station, also stopping at Bozner Platz, Triumphpforte and Basilika Wilten. Get off at “Fulpmes Schlick 2000” or “Abzweigung Elferlifte”.
All details and map links are on our contact & meeting points page.
Who can do a tandem flight?
Almost any healthy person: children from about age 3 or 15 kg, adults up to 135 kg, with no upper age limit. You need to be able to take a few steps at take-off. With a walking disability a flight is often still possible – talk to us first. We advise against flying with cardiovascular problems, acute injuries or during pregnancy.
Fear of heights is rarely an obstacle: in the harness, height feels completely different from standing at an edge. More in our FAQ.
